welcome to PHesta public health consultancy
My name is Joost van der Meer. As a medical doctor and public health specialist with more than 25 years of professional experience, I offer my services as consultant to non-governmental organisations, governments and businesses under the name Phesta. Phesta stands for Public Health, Epidemiology, Strategy, Action. Because that covers precisely my skills: translating public health and epidemiology into strategy and action. Action that should improve the lives and health of vulnerable people world-wide.
My expertise lies in emergency humanitarian medical action, HIV, tuberculosis and, more recently, Hepatitis C. Within HIV and tuberculosis my most extensive experience is in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Because of the epidemiology of both HIV and tuberculosis in that part of the world, I gained special expertise over the past 12 years with interventions for most at-risk populations, such as people who use drugs, sex workers, men who have sex with men and prisoners. In humanitarian emergencies I have, apart from Eastern Europe and Central Asia, also experience in West-Africa. I have a research background, leaving me with a great interest and skills for operational research.
